Max Hasbrouck

WRC - Sophomore - COMP -  Philadelphia, PA - Advisor

Max will greet you with a reserved smile and a tip of his top hat when he meets you. This rugby playing, physics loving COMP genius can come in handy at the hardest of times. He’ll help you decipher a puzzle, fix your code, or even save you from falling off a rock face to certain death…no matter what, Maxwell Bevier Hasbrouck will always be there for you. In his free time, Max loves to slide around having realistic Nerf gun fights in lounges full of studying students and wear shirts that are too small for him and his bulging muscles. Though he may seem intimidating at first, once you move past his reserved exterior you’ll get to know the quality guy that is Max. He’s great for having random conversations with, considering there’s hardly a topic he doesn’t have some background knowledge on, and be wary of his sarcasm that will surely make you laugh more than you thought possible.

Andrew Elsey

Hanszen - Sophomore - MECH -  Clearwater, FL - Co-Advisor

Weighing in at 5.98 x 1013 nanograms, Andrew Elsey is a man of reputable size and strength. Some have compared his climbing prowess to that of a newborn koala. Roosters rely on him to be their alarm clock. He rigorously grooms and upkeeps his irregular sleeping schedule. This great listener puts the “ear” in Clearwater, his hometown in Florida. He came into college knowing more about Mechanical Engineering than most professors, but still goes to class because he does not want them to feel bad. Since matriculating at Rice, he has built a clock that only tells time when you yell at it, a laser harp, and a 13-foot metal crane. You may be thinking to yourself, “Why?”, “That doesn’t make any sense!”, or maybe even “I’m in love.” This is a natural and contagious symptom of Elseyitis, easily cured with a dose of his world-famous caffeine pills. Consider yourself lucky to have this zany and beautiful man as your co-advisor.

Ellen Wendte

WRC - Senior - MSNE -  Glen Ellyn, IL - Advisor

What’s the difference between a well-dressed man on a bicycle and a poorly-dressed man on a unicycle?” “Attire!” If you thought that joke was funny at all, prepare to meet your new best friend. They call her Rapunzel (they don’t really) not only because of her long hair, but also because you can’t spell her name without “pun.” She’s a MSNE gettin’ frisky, from the Windy City… It’s Ellen Wendte!!! Her name needed to be emphasized with exclamation points because that’s how excited she’ll be to meet you… In fact, you can bet she’ll completely lose her voice by the second day of O-Week. When she CAN talk, though, she’s one of the first people you should try to get to know at Will Rice, because she’s kind of a big deal around here. She’s a Will Rice President of Vice- no wait, Vice President- and is also our former secretary and multiple-time Beer Bike Coordinator. Not only does Ellen play a bundle of sports for WRC, she’s a captain of women’s club lacrosse as well. What’s that? You want to get to know Ellen, but don’t know how to? Easy. Just go to the commons about an hour after any meal (don’t worry she’ll still be there), and say “Pizza” or “Chicago Blackhawks.” That’ll get her attention faster than the smell of freshly popped popcorn. But seriously, Ellen is an incredible friend and wonderful listener. Learn all you can from this Midwestern babe, from how to get down on the dance floor at public parties to how to “turn up” in the classroom. You are so lucky to have this lovely lady as your advisor!

Victoria Dobbie

WRC - Senior - CSCI -  The Woodlands, TX - PAA

Although she may seem like your average Rice student, Victoria is much more than meets the eye. This pre-med Cognitive Sciences major from The Woodlands, TX is not afraid to tell you what is on her mind, has internship on internship in preparation for medical school, and has club thumbs (they are very...unique). She is a fierce friend and one of the most down to earth people you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. Amidst writing and correcting one of her friends’ essays she can be found eating a surprising amount of food and an absurd amount of chocolate (you’ll have to hide it from this one). Talk to her about football and you will be pleasantly surprised with just how long that conversation lasts. You are lucky to have someone as approachable, as friendly, and as dedicated to her duty to her role on your advising team. Without a doubt, she will make your O-Week one of the best weeks of your life.
