The Bourne Sweepremacy

Michelle Huang

WRC - Junior - PSYC - Austin, TX - Advisor

Head’s up new students, because you’re about to experience the hurricane of awesome that is Michelle Huang.  This half Asian sensation is a second generation Will Ricer and it certainly shows. Michelle basically bleeds rust and gold. When she’s not busy saving children in third world countries, she spends her time dominating on the Powderpuff field, running Will Rice’s Programs Directorate, spontaneously belting out Frozen songs, or uncontrollably giggling at pictures of puppies. She’s always down for a trip to late night Pho or just hanging out and binge watching TV. Personal hobbies aside, Michelle (Mitch) is one of the kindest and most caring people at Will Rice. She’s always willing to put down what she’s doing to help out a friend in need. Seriously, she loves her friends so much it hurts. Michelle’s passion for everything she does is infectious and truly embodies the Will Rice competitive spirit. If you’ve been put in Michelle’s O-Week group I envy you, because you’re about to have one of the best O-Weeks of all time and probably about to gain a friend for life.

Maggie Shi

Baker - Junior - Math Econ + STAT - Rockville, MD - Co-Advisor

This Maryland native’s personality is infectious. With the energy of a thousand suns, Maggie Shi’s enthusiasm lights up any room she walks into. Seriously, a few minutes of conversation with her will brighten your day. The topic? Anything and everything. From tips on which servery has the best fresh fruit to showing you adorable puppy gifs, there is never a dull moment with Maggie. What’s most contagious about this Math/Econ and Stat double major is her adventurous spirit. She’s eager to take on new activities and try new food (regardless of how spicy they are). When she’s not busy finishing problem sets, organizing spirit events for Baker, or stress shopping at Trader Joe’s this Asian beauty knows how to have a great time–her mad glow-stick skills and dance moves even got compliments on Rice Missed Encounters! Day or night, spending time around Maggie’s positive energy will make you a happier person. From the moment you arrive, Maggie Shi will greet you with open arms and a beaming smile. Take it in. Cool, cute, and loving, Maggie will make a phenomenal advisor and an even better friend. I promise.

Alex Schmidt

WRC - Senior - MECHE - Westfield, IN - Advisor

Alex Schmidt needs a new nickname. Everyone (everyone!) calls him Schmidty, so that barely even counts as a nickname anymore. So what can we call him? Well, uhh… how about “Power Line”? Might sound weird at first, but it makes sense, and here’s why… First, “Power Line” totally sounds cool enough to match Schmidty’s personality. He really is very cool and fun to be around, while still being grounded (that’s an electricity pun) and approachable. Maybe it’s his upbringing in the Hoosier State- or maybe it’s Maybelline- but this Indiana boy is incredibly genuine and down-to-earth. Second, “Power Line” works because Schmidty is ridiculously energetic. This dude runs marathons, competes in triathlons, and is a key member of Will Rice’s world-renowned Beer Bike team. “Energetic” is also the perfect word to describe someone who can handle as many Mechanical Engineering-related all-nighters as Schmidty does. Finally, Schmidty is literally a “power”-ful person at Will Rice, as he’s currently one of our Vice Presidents, and is a former Chief Justice - two of the most important jobs around here. That’s before we even get to his roles with the bike team, Karma Patrol, and as a PAA. It’s almost shocking (another electricity pun!) how active he is around Will Rice. So, “Power Line” it is, then? Cool! …Now we’ve just gotta get everyone else to actually start calling Schmidty that.

Sangwon Kim

WRC - Sophomore - KINE + POST -  New York, NY - RHA

What can I tell you about Sangwon Kim? Well, he’s a man of many names, (Swerve, Swag-on, Swangon, Sangwonny-won, etc.), and he claims to hail from Virginia (this is an unconfirmed fact). Sangwon is known for his sparkling personality, extensive knowledge of indie-rap, and his love for Korean late-night food. This Kinesiology and Policy Studies major is one of Will Rice’s Rice Health Advisors, and our very own O-Week RHA, so he’s dedicated to your wellbeing and more importantly a never-ending source of cough drops. Sangwon is also Dental Chair for the Rice’s chapter of Global Medical Brigades, so he’ll be traveling to Honduras this summer to set up a clinic in an underserved part of the country (he’s a pretty upstanding guy). His adventures in Latin America won’t stop there though! He’ll be spending the rest of the summer basking in the sun on the beaches of Lima, where his family is moving. Sangwon was “bourne” to be your affiliate, and with him by your side, you’re going to have the best O-Week ever!
